Multi Day Cycling The Harvest Moon

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the MULTI DAY CYCLING THE HARVEST MOON TRAIL 16 & 17 JUNE 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 16 MAY 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
This multi day cycling event will allow members to experience two back to back days of group riding for approximately 56 - 60 km per day at various speeds. Each cycling team will be led by experienced riders who will assist and support participants throughout the event. The event will take place 16 & 17 June 2025. Participants will explore the beautiful Harvest Moon Trail, enjoying the landscape and the camaraderie of fellow riders.  

This event welcomes cyclists of all levels and is especially encouraging for new riders interested in longer-distance events. Participants should be prepared for varying distances and conditions.  Participants are required to have their own bike their own bike helmet, repair kits, extra tubes, and appropriate cycling clothing for all types of weather.

The evening of the 16th of June CFB Greenwood will host the group for a learn to bowling session in the evening.

Meals & Accommodations:
Soldier On will cover accommodations for those residing more than 100km from the event location. All meals during the event will be covered. Participants are responsible for their own transport to and from the event location.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from Nova Scotia who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

NOTE FOR SERVING MEMBERS: The selection of serving members for activities outside their local regions for which members will be on TD will align with CAF direction on financial expenditures.

Dates and Itinerary:
Travel Days: 16 June & 18 June 2025
Cycling Days: 16 & 17 June 2025

Cycling Route and Accommodations:
16 June: Cycle from Grand Pré to Kingston NS
17 June: Cycle from Annapolis Royal to Kingston NS
Accommodation: Shared accommodations in Kingston, NS for the duration of the event.

Groups and Distances:
Group 1 & 2: Ride approximately 56 - 60 km per day at various speeds with a ride lead as a group.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. 

The following meals will be provided during the event: 16 June - lunch & dinner, 17 June - all meals and 18 June - breakfast.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 4 hours of moderate/high paced activities for 4 hours in a row for 2 consecutive days. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Members require flexibility and be open to adjustments in the plan, whether due to changes in weather, route, or group dynamics. Good aerobic capacity to handle prolonged exertion over two days. Members should have some riding experience with regular long ride distances, have adequate recovery strategies, including stretching, proper sleep, and rest days leading up to the event, to ensure your body is prepared for the physical challenge.

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Applicants are advised that the activity and meals for this event is/may be located at Canadian Armed Forces bases/facilities, and thus they may be exposed to a day-to-day military environment. Applicants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol allowed in the accommodations, and will be required to share accommodations.
