Learn To Run: 5km/10k Programming for Navy Run 2025

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Learn To Run: 5km/10km Programming for Navy Run 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 25 April 2025 @ 1200 PST

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Soldier On is excited to be partnering with CFB Esquimalt's PSP Fitness and Sport Instructors to provide selected participants the opportunity to participate in a 7-week Learn to Run: 5km/10km Program leading up to this years edition of the Navy Run!

Over the course of these seven (7) weeks, selected participants can expect to receive support through
1. 0-5km Running Training Program
2. 5-10km Running Training Program
3. Supporting Strength program
4. Supporting Mobility program 

Selected participants will meet with PSP Fitness and be taught how to safely and skillfully complete their preferred Learn to Run program. This program can be tailored to your skill level; if you're a first time runner, just getting back into it, or looking to spice up your current programming, this program is for you! 

This program will be primarily taught out of the base gym (Naden Athletic Centre) and will have participants meeting 2 times per-week. We ask that selected participants be prepared to attend all scheduled training days however, we do understand that life happens!

 In recognition of your effort and commitment to the training program, Soldier On will sponsor selected participants by covering their registration for either the 5km or 10km distance at the Navy Run. 

If you've been looking for some motivation and a reason to get back into running, look no further! Soldier On and PSP have got you, every step of the way! 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 8

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from within a 60 minute driving radius of Victoria, BC who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

*NOTE FOR SERVING MEMBERS: The selection of serving members for activities outside their local regions for which members will be on TD will align with CAF direction on financial expenditures.

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Please be prepared to arrive at Naden Athletic Centre (CFB Esq NAC main lobby/entrance) 10 minutes prior to the start of every session

Program Start Date: 6 May 2025
1300-1400 Tuesdays and Thursdays starting 6 May - 19 June
Race Day: 21 June 2025 

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 60+ minutes of moderate to high paced activity during running and or supporting strength and conditioning sessions, two days per week.  

Applicants must not be in violation of their MEL's.

Applicants are advised that these timings may coincide with the heat of the day and therefore they must be prepared to tolerate varying temperatures (dress and hydration). Weather and temperature will be considered before each training session and proper precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of all participating. 

Applicants should be prepared to learn new movements in front of other and potentially in the presence of the general population at Naden Athletic Centre. 

Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.    

Applicants are advised that the this activity will be hosted on a Canadian Armed Forces base/facility, and thus they may be exposed to a day-to-day military environment.
