Blacksmithing Course - Qc

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Blacksmith Course on 20-21 May 2025 in Québec, QC is now open. The application deadline is Wednesday April 30th at 12:00.

AIM AND SCOPE OF THE EVENT: 
Soldier On is organizing a Blacksmith Course in collaboration with Maison des métiers d'art de Québec www.mmaq.com on May 20th and 21st 2025. Participants will join a friendly and experimented instructor to learn and develop blacksmith techniques, Participants will be able to create a wrought iron piece with the hammer and anvil by the end of the 6 hour course. Regardless of the current skill level, up to 12 participants (6 per day) will have the opportunity to use the art of blacksmithy of as part of their recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 6 (six) per day for a maximum of 12 (twelve).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Larger Québec City Region (within 90 min of car travel) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Tuesday May 20th      / 09h00-16h00 (60 min lunch break)
Wednesday May 21st / 09h00-16h00 (60 min lunch break)

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location. Participants will need to bring their own personal lunch.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 6 hours of moderate to high indoor paced activities. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.  Participants should possess basic upper body strength and hand coordination to be able to handle tools. Participants must have the ability to follow instructions. Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Please note that temperature inside the blacksmith local is considered high and that participants may be exposed to prolonged periods of loud noise.
