Beaver River Canoe Run - Heathcote, ON

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Beaver River Canoe Run Heathcote ON, 19 June 2025 is now open. The application deadline is 19 May 2025

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Participants will learn basic Canoe skills and be guided on a day of paddling down the Beaver River ending in Heathcote ON, on 19 June 2025. Assistance throughout the event will be provided courtesy of Free Spirit Tours, www.freespirit-tours.com.

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 10.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Meaford area (Owen Sound, Collingwood, Borden, Wasaga Beach Hanover) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

*NOTE FOR SERVING MEMBERS: The selection of serving members for activities outside their local regions for which members will be on TD will align with CAF direction on financial expenditures.

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Thursday 19 June 2025
0900hrs: Arrive Heathcote on;
0910hrs: receive welcome brief and group travel to start location;
0930hrs: Dry land instruction and water safety then launch on the Beaver River for a guided river excursion to include a stop for lunch; and
1500hrs: Event complete.

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On with the exception of lunch during the event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.  Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Participants must be able to tolerate up to 5 hours of moderate paced activities. Due to the nature of this activity, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. Participants will be required to wear a personal flotation device at all times while around and on the water. Participants also acknowledge that there will be no alcohol consumption allowed during the conduct of this event.
