Indigenous Hand Drumming and Cultural Event Application Form

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Indigenous Hand Drumming & Cultural Experience 18 June 25 is now open. Application deadline is 1 June 25.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT: 
Soldier On in collaboration with Metis Crossing is hosting a unique Indigenous educational experience where in the morning we will explore a cultural gathering centre and the land at Metis Crossing through a 1.5 hour guided tour/immersive experience.   In the afternoon the participant's will learn the history behind a traditional drum circle and learn to play the hand drum as a group.   

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 17.

Draft Schedule of Event:  
Depart Transition Center Edmonton:   0845 (will be 0745 for Wainwright and Cold Lake) 
Arrive Metis Crossing:  1000 
Event Begins/Smudging/Prayer: 1015 
Tour of land:  1045 
Lunch at Metis Crossing: 1200 
Drum Circle history and teaching: 1210 
Drum Circle song components: 1230 
Event Ends:  1545 Depart back to Edmonton, Wainwright, Cold Lake.  

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate 5 hours of light paced activities for 1 day/ 5 hours in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. 

Selected members must be able to walk at a light pace on uneven terrain for a total of 1.5 hours.   
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment. 

Selected applicants from the Edmonton geographical area, Wainwright and Cold Lake can choose to drive there POMV, however there will be no financial compensation for travel costs associated with this trip.   A DND van from each region will be available to assist with transport for selected participants wanting to utilize free transportation.
