PRAIRIE MULTI-SPORTS CAMP

The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the Prairie Multi-Sports Camp to be conducted April 22-26, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is now open. The application deadline is Sunday, March 16, 2025.

AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:  
Soldier On, in collaboration with Manitoba Possible, Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association, Manitoba Archery, 17 Wing Archery Club and PSP Winnipeg, will host a four-day multi-sports camp in Winnipeg, MB. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle. The objective of this camp will be to showcase and introduce several adaptive sports, most of which are played in the Invictus and Warrior Games. The sports to be introduced are wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, archery, and sledge hockey. Should the weather be favorable, we will also be introduced to disc golf. There is no prior experience required and everyone is welcome to apply, including able-bodied Soldier On members. 

The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 16.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the Prairie Region (NW ON, MB, SK) who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Selected Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate. 

*NOTE FOR SERVING MEMBERS: The selection of serving members for activities outside their local regions for which members will be on TD will align with CAF direction on financial expenditures.

DRAFT SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Tuesday, 22 Apr 25: Travel Day
Wednesday, 23 April 25: Wheelchair Basketball, Archery (Recurve Bow), and Disc Golf (pending course condition)
Thursday, 24 Apr 25: Wheelchair Rugby and Archery (Compound Bow)
Friday, 25 Apr 25: Sledge Hockey
Saturday, 26 Apr 25 - Travel Day

TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Out-of-town participants are advised that travel expenses will be eligible for reimbursement for this event. Local participants will be provided lunch each day and will be required to arrange their own transportation to and from the event.

Mental & Physical Requirements:
Participants must be able to tolerate up to eight (8) hours of moderate to high paced activities for four (4) consecutive days. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day. Participants will be participating in several different sports and must ensure they can play these sports within the limitations of their Medical Employment Limitations (MEL). Participants should have the ability to follow instructions. Participants are advised that this event will be conducted at 17 Wing/CFB Winnipeg, and will likely be exposed to a day-to-day military environment.  Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE PREVENTION:
Soldier On, PSP and CAF TG aim to provide a safe environment for all participants and staff. To ensure everyone’s safety, applicants understand that they should aim to adopt personal practices focused on communicable disease prevention such as health awareness, staying home when sick and regular hand cleaning to help prevent the spread.
