E-ON Kingston Introduction to Blacksmithing
The application period for Soldier On members wishing to participate in the E-ON Kingston Introduction to Blacksmithing on 17-18 March 2025 is now open.
The application deadline is 28 February 2025.
AIM AND SCOPE OF EVENT:
Soldier On, Eastern Ontario Region will host a 2-day Introduction to Blacksmithing event at
Got Your Six Ironworks, Kingston ON on 17-18 March 2025. The two day course offers participants an opportunity to gain an appreciation and understanding of basic blacksmithing skills through a hands on course, learning and developing the basic blacksmith techniques of drawing out, upsetting, splitting, spreading, punching and bending. Participants will work on a variety of small items.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF)
from the E-ON Region within a reasonable driving distance to Kingston who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Serving members will require the approval of their Chain of Command to participate and must have the authorization form submitted to the E-ON Soldier On Regional Coordinator by the application deadline or your application will not be considered.
*NOTE FOR SERVING MEMBERS: Amidst current financial limitations and a federal directive to reduce defense spending within DND by a Billion dollars, serving members' participation in Soldier On events and activities will now be limited to within their own local region (i.e., selection for event outside of where they reside is unlikely). As a result, serving members are advised that participation beyond their local area is likely to be denied, as Soldier On cannot sponsor any temporary duty status for serving members in order to align with government guidelines for expenditure reduction. Unfortunately, serving members are not authorized to participate in Soldier On activities and events while on leave.*

0845 – Welcome
0900 – Basic Blacksmithing
1200 – Lunch
1300 – Basic Blacksmithing
1500 – End of Session
TRANSPORTATION & MEALS:
Participants are advised that
transportation, accommodation and meals will not be provided by Soldier On for this event. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location.
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be able to tolerate
6 hours of moderate paced activities for
2 days in a row. Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
Applicants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
