Ski Days in Calabogie, ON

Soldier On will host a ski event at Calabogie Peaks Ski Resort on the 28th of February and 1st of March. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.

Soldier On members will be from the National Capital and Eastern Ontario regions, within a two-hour drive of Calabogie, ON.

This event will allow for two different groups of eight ill/injured serving or retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces to participate. Each group will receive a day of expert instruction and supervision in skiing to assist in the continuation of an active lifestyle, and interaction with peers.

The aim of this activity is to provide an opportunity for both serving and veteran Soldier On members to use the sport of skiing as part of their recovery and rehabilitation. Regardless of the current skill level, the participants will receive expert instruction on skiing. As an adaptable sport the event is open to any ability or disability.

This event is open to all levels of skiing. Each eight-person group will receive one day of instruction and skiing on either the 28th of February or 1st of March. Skiing will be taught by qualified instructors.

All ski equipment will be provided including helmets. Members will require goggles and clothing suitable for cold-extreme cold temperatures.

A private room will be available for meeting, storage of equipment and dining. Dining will be managed within the PHMs and a meal will be provided.

*As a local event for members within a two-hour drive of Calabogie, reimbursement will not be provided for travel, fuel or incidentals.

Schedule for both days
  • 9:30 a.m. – Welcome briefing and introductions;
  • 9:40 a.m. – Issue ski equipment rentals;
  • 10 a.m. – Ski Instruction;
  • noon – Lunch;
  • 1 p.m. – Skiing; and
  • 4 p.m. – Wrap-up.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to 16 (eight per day).

Minimum eligibility criteria
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from the NCR and E/ON Regions, within a two hour drive of Calabogie who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.

Serving Members
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.

Mental & Physical Requirements
  • Participants must be able to participate in seven hours of moderate to high-paced activity for one day.
    • Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
  • Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
  • Participants will be required to consistently stand and perform the physical activities related to skiing including bending, reaching, and side to side movement.
    • Consistent jarring and impact on ankles, knees, hips and the lower back are considered part of skiing although the frequency is lessened as skiing ability improves.
    • Members must wear a ski helmet at all times when skiing and utilizing ski lifts or ski tows.
Transport and Meals
  • Participants are advised that transportation will not be provided by Soldier On.
  • Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location.
  • A lunch will be provided however participants are advised to bring non-alcohol beverages and snack/energy foods to assist them throughout the day.
Nomination Forms must be received by Soldier On no later than the 18th of February, 2022.

Be advised that a proof of vaccination or vaccine passport will be required at the event.
