The 5th Annual Atlantic Golf Invitational Supports Soldier On

The fifth annual Soldier On Atlantic Golf Invitational will take place on July 29 at the Royal Oaks Golf Club in Moncton, NB, with proceeds from the charity event benefitting Soldier On. Nineteen teams from Atlantic Canada’s business community and the public sector will participate in the tournament. Each team will include one ill/injured member from the Soldier On program.

A huge thanks to Commissionaires NB & PEI for being the co-sponsor of this event and to the Royal Oaks Golf Club for being co-sponsor and providing the golf course to play on.

“This golf tournament presents a great opportunity to show our support for wounded soldiers through fundraising for the Soldier On program, and to spend a day alongside them as teammates,” says Jake Bell, Board Governor for Commissionaires NB & PEI, the event co-sponsor.

Media and the community are invited for an up-close look at the Canadian Army armoured vehicles that will be on display, and to watch the flyovers and demonstrations by the Royal Canadian Air Force. Look to the skies during the lunch hour to see both a Cyclone and a Griffon helicopter.

“Any support we, as a community, can show the men and women who defend our freedoms and way of life, especially through such a fantastic program as Soldier On, is something we feel strongly about and will continue to be part of,” said Esmond Clouthier, Director of Club Operations, Royal Oaks Golf Club.

“It wasn’t until I became involved with the Soldier On program that I could return to my career,” said Mike Feyko, event organizer. Seriously injured in a parachute accident, Mike overcame incredible odds to, not only walk again, but become a golf professional after his injury.

His injuries, both physical and mental, eventually caught up to him and Michael quit the game and walked away from his new career. “Now I can help others understand the importance of golf as a form of rehab for ill and injured soldiers.”
