Introduction to Archery in Petawawa, ON
Soldier On in the Eastern Ontario Region will host a local indoor Introduction to Archery event at Petawawa, ON. This event will be held on the 2nd of March. This activity will bring together both serving and retired ill/injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
The aim of this activity is to provide an opportunity for both serving and Veteran ill/injured CAF members to use the sport of archery as part of their recovery and rehabilitation. Regardless of the current skill level, the participants will receive expert instruction on archery.
Eight or 16 participants (as PHMs permit) will receive a 3.5 hours introduction to archery in a safe and controlled environment with the assistance of The Petawawa Archery Club. There will be two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Equipment will be provided by the sport delivery provider. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Adaptive archery can be taught.
The number of Soldier On participants is limited to eight or 16 (depending on PHM).
Minimum eligibility criteria
Any serving member or veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) within a two hour drive of the Eastern Ontario Region of Petawawa, ON who acquired a permanent physical or mental health illness or injury while enrolled as a member of the CAF; whether attributable or not to service.
Serving Members
Medical clearance may be required by your chain of command.
Mental & Physical Requirements
- Participants must be able to tolerate four hours of moderate paced activities.
- Due to the busy activity schedule, applicants must have a limited requirement for rest throughout the day.
- Participants will be joined with other ill/injured members and civilians, and therefore should be able to function in a social environment.
- Participants will be required to consistently pull back a bow string and stand for long periods.
- Equipment is included.
Transport and Meals
Participants are advised that meals and transportation will not be provided by Soldier On. Participants will be required to arrange their own travel to and from the event location, travel and meals are not eligible for reimbursement for this event.
Be advised that a proof of vaccination or vaccine passport will be required at the event.
